Our commitment to the preservation of the Galapagos Islands and their unique eco-system continues with the launch of our incredible new ship launching in June, Celebrity Flora. To celebrate, we’re unveiling three exciting partnerships.

1. Celebrity Flora: Blending Education and Exploration

Celebrity Flora is dedicated to understanding the unique ecology and ocean currents of the Galapagos Islands in order to better protect and preserve them. Equipped with an innovative piece of equipment known as an Oceanscope, it will be the first ship of its kind which gathers data crucial to studying El Niño and La Niña. It’s a product of our 20-year relationship with the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, to whom our cruise itineraries provide access to gather and measure ocean circulation dynamics.

According to Peter B. Ortner, Celebrity Flora will “yield data essential to understanding the physical system that has created and maintains the unique Galapagos ecosystem”.

2. A Passionate Advovate For Sustainability

We’re thrilled to announce Celebrity Flora’s Godmother – Yolanda Kakabadse. A former Minister of Environment for the Republic of Ecuador and one-time President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the World Wildlife Fund International, we can think of no one more suited to representing one of the most eco-conscious ships sailing the Galapagos Islands.

Kakabadse is particularly passionate about the reduction of food waste, and together, it’s our aim to keep striving to make our ships more environmentally friendly in this manner. “I am proud to partner with a company that is committed to sustainability in the Galapagos and showing leadership on an issue critical to sustain this beautiful eco-system, food waste,” says Kakabadse.

3. A Ship Inspired By Its Destination

We wanted Celebrity Flora to feel part of its surroundings – a natural extension of the rare flora and fauna found in the Galapagos Islands. That’s why we enlisted Ecuadorian-native designer, Adriana Hoyos, to help. Her personal connection to, and passion for, the archipelago shines everywhere from the Penthouse Suite to the Discovery Lounge. Hoyos says that, “each island has different elements like the sand, the volcanic ashes, the leaves and all of those textures put together have a place in my furniture”. Look out for these organic elements when you set sail with us on Celebrity Flora.

“Each of these new partners are helping shape a better tomorrow for our planet in one way or another and we couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this sea change.”

Learn More About Celebrity Flora

The first ship of its kind to be specifically designed for the Galapagos, Celebrity Flora showcases these unique islands to the fullest extent. With a capacity of 100, its intimate feel means that we can run informative ecological seminars led by world-renowned experts. Feauturing our signature outward-facing design offering awe-inspiring 360-degree views of the islands, as well as an open-air stargazing platform, you'll find the destination is always center of attention.

Additionally, every aspect has been designed for your comfort. The all suite accomodations are some of the largest found in these waters and come with a host of premium amenities, not least a personal suite assistant. There's a choice of two stylish restaurants - indoors, or outdoors for starlight dining, and if you're in need of some relaxation there's an open-air hideaway called The Vista - complete with Jacuzzi.

Celebrity Flora will set sail for the first time from June 2019 and will then cruise all year round from Baltra on alternating seven night inner and outer loop itineraries. Create the holiday of a lifetime by combining your cruise with pre and post land journeys through Quito, Ecuador, Lima and Cuzco - Peru - including the sacred valley of the Incas and the legendary ruins of Machu Picchu.

Why Sail To The Galapagos Islands?

The volcanic Galapagos Archipelago, floating off the coast of Ecuador, is a nature-lovers paradise. Home to many species of animals and plants that exist nowhere else in the world, it helped to inspire Darwin’s theory of evolution and has remained mostly free of human interference. Spend your days on treks through the diverse landscape – tropical at one turn and moon-like the next – spotting endemic wildlife and experiencing seclusion like nowhere else on earth. Our onboard conservation experts will help you understand what to look out for and how to get the most out of your once-in-a-lifetime trip.
