With sun-kissed beaches to run along and sparkling blue water to go diving in, the Caribbean is a laidback, beachy playground for kids and adults alike. But with over 7,000 islands in the Caribbean to choose from, how do you know which is going to be the most family-friendly?

In this post, we’ll be running you through the best Caribbean getaways for families, whether you and your brood love beach-combing or underwater snorkelling.

Cayman Islands

Kids and teens will love the lively atmosphere and exciting range of water activities on offer on the Cayman Islands. For deep sea divers in the making, there are plenty of schools to learn the ropes, and over 300 dive sites to choose from – from the remains of former submarines to vast canyons containing mermaid statues.

If you have little ones too young to get their flippers on just yet, take them along to Stingray City, an idyllic sandbar in the north of Grand Cayman. They’ll be able to get up close and personal with stingrays in the safety of the shallows.

A visit to Seven Mile Beach in the west is also a must. With clear, gently lapping waters, it's just the spot for paddling, bathing or snorkelling with tropical fish.

Aruba is full of vibrant towns to explore. On the islands capital, Oranjestad, spend a relaxing afternoon at the butterfly farm or go for shopping for souvenirs on the lively boulevards.

Aruba is just as alluring for adults. Make the most of our kids’ clubs onboard and spend a day exploring, just the two of you. Oranjestad is packed full of buzzing restaurants and bars, as well as casinos and golf courses. Perfect your swing with sweeping coastal views straight from a postcard.

Dominican Republic

Do the kids need to burn off some energy? There are few places so packed full of adventure – and so photogenic – as the Dominican Republic. The island is carpeted with lush forests, providing the perfect opportunity to help kids and teens get connected to nature with zip lining, hiking and canopy tours.

There's plenty for adults, too, especially in bustling Punta Cana. When you're not reclining on grand stretching curves of coastline with a good book (and maybe a rum cocktail), play a round of golf or get stuck into fresh seafood at a relaxed oceanside grill.

Puerto Rico

Indulge little ones’ curious side by cruising with us to historic Puerto Rico. Go walking in the old town of San Juan to admire intricate colonial buildings and the fascinating fortresses of La Fortaleza and El Morro. Castillo San Cristobal is one of the largest Spanish forts anywhere in the world.

Of course, you can’t stay away from the beach for too long. If you have time, take a ride out to the island of Culebra. Tamarindo Beach is a serene and unspoilt spot. Keep an eye out – you might get lucky enough to spot sea turtles or manta rays.

With so much to offer, Barbados allows you to explore as little or as much as you like. Sail through crystal waters on a catamaran, have fun in the shallow waters of Accra beach, or for an underwater adventure the whole family can enjoy, Atlantis Submarine is a must. You’ll get up close and personal with a shipwreck and a world of tropical fish and vibrant coral.

Back on dry land, take a stroll through the islands Capital of Bridgetown to soak up the local culture. Marvel at the magnificent colonial buildings in it’s historic quarter, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, before cooling off with an ice cold snow cone.

Saint Lucia

Holiday destinations don’t come much better looking than Saint Lucia, in the east of the Caribbean. Calm beaches, mysterious rainforests and picturesque mountains mean that there’s plenty for the family to do, too.

Start by paddling in the crystal clear waters of Anse des Sables beach in the south of the island, before exploring the smaller hills in the west to come across peaceful waterfalls.
