The Royal Wedding may be coming up on the 19th of May but naturally, we’re more excited about the newlyweds’ honeymoon choices. There could be no more regal destination than the Caribbean, with its enchanting tropical beauty and irresistible rhythms and flavours. Here are five Caribbean destinations that should make your honeymoon list; from the colourful colonial buildings of St Kitts to the golden sands of the Bahamas.

1.

Jamaica

Vibrant, verdant and effortlessly charismatic, Jamaica is the perfect spot for those who like their beach holiday with a touch of character thrown in. One of Jamaica’s main draws is its mouth-watering Creole cuisine. Imagine tucking into chicken marinated in tangy African spices, sweet, starchy yams and fresh seafood, caught feet away that very morning.

Some of our favourite spots include Montego Bay, which is nestled into the idyllic north coast of Jamaica. The beaches here are world-famous – from the crystalline waters of Doctor’s Beach to the ivory sands of Walter Fletcher Beach. Feeling active? A trip to Ocho Rios may be in order. Hike up Dunn’s River Falls, where you can also stop along the way for a dip in the cool, refreshing water.

2.

Punta Cana

Punta Cana sits at the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic and is perhaps most well-known for being the spot where the Atlantic and Caribbean collide. This is one for the real beach-lovers: you'll find a whopping 32km here, as Punta Cana joins together with the nearby area of Bávaro to form what’s called the “Coconut Coast”. If you’re looking for positively regal relaxation, this is where you’ll find it.

However, Punta Cana also offers plenty for those looking to stay active on their honeymoon or holiday. Why not go snorkelling on Catalina Island, or check out one of the area’s many golf courses? You can even indulge your thrill-seeking side by taking a zip-line over the luxury resorts.

3.

Saint Lucia

There's a reason this spot has been voted "World's Leading Honeymoon Destination" eight times by the World Travel Awards. We suspect it may have something to do with the lush, mountainous landscape, the secluded bays straight from a movie set or the famously photogenic Pitons.

On a Caribbean cruise with us, you’ll discover the bustling port of Castries. After shopping for those all-important honeymoon souvenirs, you can journey to Soufrière. A quaint town of colonial buildings is ringed by the towering rock formations known as the Pitons. Stay awhile to enjoy the spectacular views from Sugar Beach or to bathe in the natural Sulphur Springs. Add in a glass of bubbly, and we can’t think of a better way to begin married life.

4.

St Kitts

Next up is St Kitts, one half of the St Kitts and Nevis nation. This is one for the culture vultures. Bustling Basseterre was the first French town in the Caribbean. Discover more about the island’s colonial past at the National Museum, or allow yourself to get lost in the maze of streets in the Old Town radiating outwards from the “Circus” – a kind of roundabout complete with a clock-tower from the Victorian era.

Of course, there's plenty of rest to be had here, too. Head to Frigate Bay, where you can go snorkelling in clear waters or just relax on the sand. Or, you might choose to take it easy with the locals in Basseterre’s Independence Square.

5.

The Bahamas

The Bahamas almost immediately conjures up an idyllic carousel of images, from pastel pink beaches to secluded islands complete with palms dancing in a light breeze. And in reality, the Bahamas delivers on your every honeymoon daydream – and then some.

Our highlights include Nassau, the lively and fun-loving capital of the Bahamas. The abundant coral reefs here make it a prime spot for diving and snorkelling. It’s also home to colourful Colonial buildings and an irreverent, care-free spirit. You might also choose to visit Grand Bahama Island, which earns its status as the second most popular destination in all of the Bahamas. Here you’ll find some of the clearest water in the world, which some may even say is fit for royalty.
