The Caribbean

CaribbeanDecember is the perfect time to visit the Caribbean, as it’s slightly cooler than peak season (though still very warm). Lounging on the white-sand beaches of Barbados and sampling some spicy jerk chicken in Jamaica, the UK winter will feel very far away indeed.

There are plenty of opportunities for immersing yourself in history in the Caribbean. Go strolling Nelson’s Dockyard in St John’s on the island of Antigua, or visit a Jacobean plantation house, St Nicholas Abbey, in Bridgetown. Water-lovers are spoiled for choice when it comes to snorkelling spots, from the shipwrecks of Carlisle Bay to the Mangel Halto reef in Aruba.

The Bahamas

The BahamasThe Bahamas in December enjoy hot, dry weather. It’s one of the most popular times to visit, so you’ll find a lively, buzzing atmosphere in the capital of Nassau. Stroll through the town to admire the colourful colonial buildings or go snorkelling in the offshore reefs. Pay a visit to Fort Fincastle, which once defended Nassau against pirates.

Grand Bahama Island is known for having some of the clearest water in the world, and is dotted with secluded coves and peaceful beaches. Spend your days lazing on the white sands of Taino Beach, or admire the island’s landscapes at Lucayan National Park.

The Galapagos

The GalapagosThe Galapagos archipelago, off the coast of Ecuador, is a destination like nowhere else on earth. Home to numerous rare species of flora and fauna and crucial to Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, it’s a fascinating destination to visit.

In December, the Galapagos is starting to get warmer. Temperatures hover in the mid-twenties degrees Celsius. In terms of wildlife, you can expect to Galapagos penguins, which nest between May and January every year. Also look out for marine and land iguanas engaging in mating rituals, and green sea turtles bobbing in the waves.

Your luxurious ship is a destination in itself on 2020 December cruises. Experience the Caribbean onboard one of our revolutionary Edge Class ships, Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex. Relax on the Rooftop Garden, or take your taste-buds on a journey with over 29 bars and restaurants. Other ships sailing in December include the refined Celebrity Infinity, and the modern Celebrity Reflection.
