Transatlantic Cruise Highlights

Tenerife, Canary Islands

A hive of activity all year round thanks to its popularity with holidaymakers, Tenerife’s appeal goes far beyond its spectacular beaches. A stop here on your transatlantic cruise is guaranteed to show you a side of the island that many visitors won’t experience.

Tropical forest walks and a hike up volcanic hills are plentiful, as are spectacular geological formations such as the Teno massif and Acantilados de Los Gigantes (“Cliffs of the Giants”), where vertical cliff walls reaching up to 500 metres soar out of the ocean.

Snorkelling, windsurfing and diving are all in great supply beside the golden beaches. Meanwhile, parts of the island offer intriguing black sand beaches thanks to Tenerife’s volcanic history. If you’re not basking in the sun on board your luxury cruise ship, there’s a wealth of dining and relaxing options on land. Make the most of your transatlantic cruise and take advantage of the island’s agriculture and dine on freshly caught fish and locally grown bananas, mangoes and papayas.

Malaga, Spain

Nobody can claim that they’ve never heard of Malaga before. But how many of its visitors can claim that they’ve experienced the true Malaga? Upon arrival in Malaga, disembark from the cruise and bypass the admittedly irresistible beaches for the antiquated streets of old town, with their precious shops and cafés. The city is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, so the dynamic Picasso museum is a key attraction for many of Malaga’s visitors.

The uniqueness of Spain’s various regions makes Malaga entirely individual from the other major Spanish holiday hotspots – it simultaneously oozes old Andalusian charm and pulses with modern energy. Before your Transatlantic cruise departs, enjoy tapas on a street-side café or sip a drink at one of Malaga’s many beachfront eateries.

Ponta Delgada, Azores

The Azores are one of the more exclusive and alternative destinations in Europe and a must see on any transatlantic cruise. There are few countries that offer direct flights to the islands, so arriving by ship on your Transatlantic cruise brings you right up to these precious islands in style and comfort.

As all of the Azores are volcanic islands, the easterly isle of São Miguel offers black sand beaches that slope gently into the Atlantic – but it’s inland where the excitement really happens. São Miguel’s Sete Cidades massif presents a stunning lake produced by a volcanic eruption.

Ponta Delgada started life as a tiny fishing village, but today has evolved into a thriving town with a calmness that you’ll feel from the moment the Transatlantic cruise makes port. Sample the city’s wonderful cuisine and be sure to taste the main export – sugar beet – before you set sail.
