Celebrity SunWalk launches Celebrity Eclipse
Superstar singers set to wow the crowds at Celebrity SunWalk
Chart topping singing sensations Jocelyn Brown and Marcella Detroit will be the show-stopping performers providing the climax to the musical entertainment at The Celebrity SunWalk 2010 – taking place on Saturday 24th April in Mayflower Park as part of the launch celebrations of new ship from Celebrity Cruises, Celebrity Eclipse.
American R&B performer Jocelyn – whose hit singles include 80s classic ‘Somebody Else’s Guy’ – is warming up her vocal cords ready to wow the walkers at the charity challenge. She said: "Appearing on stage at The Celebrity SunWalk to support Walk the Walk in their fight against breast cancer is a privilege. It is so important for women to be aware of the potential risks they face and to spot symptoms early so they can get the right treatment. Events such as the Celebrity SunWalk will hopefully work towards raising awareness and saving lives."
Vocalist and songwriter Marcella –former member of female duo Shakespeare’s Sister – is also incredibly honoured and excited to be a part of the fundraising event. She said: “I hope I can bring some joy and inspiration through my music to everyone who will be out there on the day, both walking and supporting. Besides performing I am also looking forward to wearing my decorated bra – it will be a real treat to see the men in bras too! I have performed in Southampton previously with Shakespeare’s Sister and Eric Clapton and I’m looking forward to visiting the city again.”
Helping Jocelyn and Marcella to get the crowds in the mood will be cheeky TV design duo Colin and Justin and Wave 105 presenter Simon Clarke, who will be co-hosting the event and taking part in the 10k challenge. Local sporting star Geoff Holt will also be lending their support and donning their decorated bras for the charity.
The Celebrity SunWalk is a brand new Power Walking challenge for the South, organised by Walk the Walk – the UK’s leading grant making breast cancer charity – and sponsored by Celebrity Cruises as part of the launch celebrations for the new ship Celebrity Eclipse. With two distances to choose from, 5k or 10k, the event is suitable for everyone, regardless of sex, age or fitness level and places are still available for those that haven’t yet signed up.
Nina Barough, founder and chief executive of Walk the Walk, said: “With such great musical acts, The Celebrity SunWalk is set to be a great day out for all the family, whether you are walking or coming along to support family and friends. Jocelyn and Marcella are such fantastic performers and I’m sure they will get everyone in the mood to dance and sing along with them!”
Brand new Celebrity Cruises ship Celebrity Eclipse will provide the magnificent backdrop for the walks’ finish line and the ship’s official naming ceremony will take place in the afternoon. Jo Rzymowska, acting managing director and vice president, Celebrity Cruises, UK and Ireland, said: “The launch of a new ship is a very special celebration and we’re thrilled to have Marcella and Jocelyn joining hundreds of charity fundraising walkers in the Southampton celebrations as part of The Celebrity SunWalk. The 24th April is going to be a great big party in Southampton whilst at the same time raising money for a phenomenal cause – the best ever welcome that any new ship could wish for.”
